One Year Ago Today

This video was released on May 31, 2018. The city’s sky line has transformed dramatically in the twelve months that have followed, with “Chaos” and it’s time capsule-visuals helping to illustrate the change. It’s competing powers, it’s life among the towers.

Enjoy this race to the red.

The Sublime doesn’t fit in a frame

It’s sheer.

A dark density gives way to reverie

Quotes from the authors who’s writing bolstered “Big Black”

” Listening lies only partially under the control of the listener and provides a greater opportunity for objects of perception to exercise agency.”

Joanna Demers, “Listening through the Noise: The Aesthetics of Experimental Electronic Music”

” The principle feature of city soundscape is random motion…it is pedesis, Brownian motion, Gausian noise.”

R. Murray Schafer, “The Soundscape: Our Sonic Environment and the tuning of the World”

” The geographic contours of urban life are thus networks between material environments and the intensities of perception, imagination, and fantasy, creating a feverish intensity.”

Brandon LaBelle, “Acoustic Territories: Sound Culture and Everday Life”

” Behind the work of any creative artist there are three principle wishes: the wish to make something, the wish to perceive something, and the wish to communicate these perceptions to others. Those who have no interest in communication don’t become artists either, they become mystics or madmen.

Salome Voegelin, “Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art.”
